NFER statement on government announcing work has begun to recruit 6,500 new teachers

Commenting on the new Education Secretary's announcement that work has begun on delivering the government's pledge to recruit 6,500 new teachers, NFER School Workforce Lead, Jack Worth, said

“NFER welcomes the new government making teacher supply an urgent policy priority, as solving this key challenge would provide the education sector with the capacity it needs to deliver a high-quality education for children and young people.

"Ministers will need to develop a long-term strategy to improve the attractiveness of teaching as a profession to enter and to stay in, with a range of ambitious and cost-effective measures to improve both recruitment and retention."
