Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Energy Màiri McAllan has
welcomed RWE's announcement that their Grangemouth Green Hydrogen
Project is one step closer to delivery.
She met with RWE representatives at the All-Energy Conference
earlier today.
Ms McAllan said:
“The energy transition presents an era defining opportunity for
Scotland's environment and economy. Hydrogen has potential to
play a significant role in this, particularly in relation to our
industrial sector and it is encouraging to see progress being
made in this area. I am particularly pleased to see this happen
at vacant land within the Grangemouth complex, in collaboration
with INEOS.
“Hydrogen that is powered by renewable electricity could also be
a great export opportunity, to the rest of the UK and to our
European neighbours, contributing to their decarbonisation
journey and supporting Scotland's economy.
“Our Hydrogen Action Plan sets out our ambition of at least
5 GW installed renewable and low-carbon hydrogen
production capacity by 2030 and 25 GW by 2045 and RWE's
announcement that they will supply the first hydrogen produced to
INEOS Grangemouth is an extremely welcome step in Scotland's
decarbonisation journey.
“We will continue to work with the company on their ambitious
plans as they develop.”
