Foreign Secretary visits Brussels to strengthen UK-EU relationship and progress Gibraltar negotiations

Tomorrow [Thursday 16 May] Foreign Secretary David Cameron is in Brussels to co-chair the Trade and Co-operation Agreement Partnership Council alongside Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič. During the visit Lord Cameron will welcome the close relationship the UK shares with the European Union. 

Lord Cameron will also co-chair the 13th Withdrawal Agreement Joint Committee alongside Vice-President Šefčovič and have a bilateral meeting with his counterpart. 

The Foreign Secretary will note that the importance of the return of the Northern Ireland institutions earlier this year, following the British Government's Safeguarding the Union agreement.

These meetings are an opportunity to monitor progress on the implementation of the Windsor Framework and discuss shared UK-EU issues such as citizens' rights and support for Ukraine. 

While in Brussels, the Foreign Secretary and Vice-President Šefčovič will discuss progress towards a UK-EU treaty on Gibraltar alongside Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares and Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo. This will be the second meeting in this format.
