Louise Haigh comment on reports Ministers will use £1bn of taxpayer’s money to fund HS2’s Euston development

Louise Haigh MP, Labour's Shadow Secretary of State for Transport, commenting on reports Ministers will use £1bn of taxpayer's money to fund HS2's Euston development, said:

“Last year the Prime Minister took to the conference stage and promised Euston would be privately financed - a promise he knew he could not keep. Now, as a result of his dishonesty and delay, even more taxpayers' money is being added to the woefully mismanaged HS2 bill.

“Ministers urgently need to clarify where this funding will come from, and why they failed to consider this cost when making decisions around HS2.

“This Government's shambolic handling of HS2 has failed taxpayers, failed communities and has been a disaster from start to finish.”
