Yvette Cooper responds to new figures on daily abuse and attacks of shop workers

Yvette Cooper MP, Labour's Shadow Home Secretary, responding to new figures showing 1,300 incidents of abuse and attacks on shop workers every day, said:

"These figures are a shocking indictment of Tory failure on law and order.

“Attacks on retail workers have risen by 50 per cent, yet the government voted against Labour’s plans to make abuse of a shop worker a specific offence.

“Labour will change the law to protect our shop workers and will bring security back to our town centres - with regular patrols, 13,000 neighbourhood police and PCSOs, and a clampdown on shoplifting.”
