Initial teacher training and early career framework

Outcomes of the review of the initial teacher training core content framework and early career framework

The initial teacher training and early career framework (ITTECF) sets out what trainee and early career teachers need to know, and know how to do, at the start of their careers.

It is for:

• accredited initial teacher training providers
• providers and schools who train early career teachers based on the ITTECF

From September 2025, the framework combines and replaces the:

• initial teacher training core content framework
• early career framework

The ‘review outcomes’ document summarises the outcomes of a review of the existing frameworks. The review informed the development of the initial teacher training and early career framework.

A call for evidence, seeking research to inform the review, ran between March and April 2023.
