The Iran (Sanctions) (Human Rights) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 ensure sanctions relating to Iran are implemented effectively after the UK leaves the EU.

Context

This sanctions regime is aimed at encouraging the government of Iran to comply with international human rights law and respect human rights.

The Regulations impose asset freezes on those identified, and designated under the Sanctions Act, as being responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran.

The UK also implements a sanctions regime on Iran related to nuclear weapons.
