Pat McFadden responds to NAO's report on government resilience

Pat McFadden MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, responding to the National Audit Office’s report that says the government is unprepared for extreme weather events, said:

“It is unsurprising to learn that the government is underprepared to deal with extreme weather and flooding events.

“Only last month thousands of families had to evacuate their homes and properties as a result of Storm Babet, yet the 3.4 million households at risk of surface water flooding are under-informed and under-prepared.

“Resilience and preparedness are two of the most important tasks of government, yet the Conservatives have shown time and again that they unable to protect Britain from the crises and threats it faces.

“Labour would make resilience a government priority, ensuring key threats like extreme weather and hostile state interference are at the top of the agenda.”
