Mike Amesbury comments on 10.5% rise in people living in temporary accommodation

Mike Amesbury MP, Labour's Shadow Homelessness Minister, commenting on 10.5 per cent rise in people living in temporary accommodation last year, said:

"After 13 years of a chronic shortage in decent, secure and affordable housing, the Tories have abandoned families across Britain.

“At the height of a cost-of-living crisis, the government has failed to act as the toxic mix of rising rents and a failure to end no-fault evictions hit vulnerable people, pushing more families into homelessness. It looks like more than 100,000 children will be living in temporary accommodation this Christmas. This is not a vision for modern Britain.

“Where this government has failed to get a grip on our country's homelessness crisis, the next Labour government will deliver the biggest boost to affordable, social and council housing for a generation, and get those social homes built, brick by brick. We’ll start by rebuilding the dream of a safe, secure, affordable home that the Tories have taken a wrecking ball to over the last 13 years.”
