Only a Labour government can end thirteen years of energy
insecurity and rising energy bills under the Conservatives and
the SNP, has said as part of a visit to
the North East of Scotland.
The UK Labour leader will pledge that the pillars of his energy
policy will be “energy security, jobs and lower bills”,
delivering security for the country alongside security for
families struggling with the cost of living.
The visit to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire with Scottish Labour
Leader and Shadow Energy Secretary
MP comes after shock revelations from Energy
Secretary that the Conservative
government has no plans to bring down energy bills for families.
When asked last week by the BBC if the only energy policy in the
King's Speech would help to cut energy bills, the Energy
Secretary responded: “It wouldn't necessarily bring energy bills
down, that’s not what we’re saying.”
Last year, British households were the worst hit by the energy
crisis in western Europe. Labour’s plans to make the UK a clean
energy superpower will take up to £1,400 off the annual household
bill and £53 billion off energy bills for businesses by 2030, by
building clean, homegrown power for Britain.
Labour’s pledge to deliver the Scotland-based and publicly owned
GB Energy and put Scotland in the vanguard of the transition to
clean energy will support 50,000 jobs in Scotland.
Speaking after meeting energy leaders in Aberdeen Labour
leader MP said: “Labour will
deliver lower bills, good jobs, and energy security for Scotland
and the whole UK, as Britain leads the world in the fight against
climate change.
“The route to making Britain a clean energy superpower, slashing
energy bills and creating tens of thousands of quality jobs runs
through Scotland.
“It’s clear that so much of the expertise that is needed to make
Scotland the UK the first clean energy superpower is here in
Scotland - and particularly the North East.
“Our energy plans will be made in Scotland - cutting energy bills
for Scottish families and delivering the jobs and investment in
Scottish communities that for far too long have been let down by
the SNP and Conservatives.
“Only Labour can bring down energy bills once and for all, by
investing in homegrown clean power guaranteeing the next
generation of clean power jobs in Scotland.”
Scottish Labour leader added: “Labour’s
clean power plan will deliver lower energy bills, more jobs,
greater energy security and make the UK – and Scotland – a global
climate leader.
“All backed up by GB energy – a publicly owned energy company –
that will be headquartered here in Scotland.
“After years of failure from the Tories and the SNP people across
our country are looking for action.
“Labour has a plan for more jobs, lower bills, greater energy
security and climate leadership.
“There is going to be a global leader in the clean energy
revolution.
“Under Labour that global leader will be Scotland and the UK.”
