Anti-strike laws are “a dog’s dinner” and will “drag out disputes” - TUC

• Code of practice on minimum service levels ties unions up in red tape– and makes an “already-dire” piece of legislation “even worse”

Commenting on the minimum service levels code of practice, which has been published today (Tuesday), TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak said:

“These Conservative anti-strike laws are a dog’s dinner – this shambolic, unworkable legislation will frustrate employers, workers and unions alike.

“In their rush to attack unions, ministers have produced statutory guidance which makes an already-dire piece of legislation even worse.

“Rather than dealing with the problems working people face, the government is trying to tie unions up in more red tape.

“These new laws will stoke tensions between employers and workers, poison industrial relations and drag out disputes.

“They represent a brazen attack on the right to strike – they’re unworkable, undemocratic and likely in breach of international law.   

“That’s why unions will keep fighting this spiteful legislation. We won’t stop until it is repealed.”
