Alex Norris comments on findings that violent attacks on shop workers are not being responded to by the police

Alex Norris MP, Labour’s Shadow Policing Minister, commenting on findings from theAssociation of Convenience Stores that violent attacks on shop workers are not being responded to by the police, said:

"Shopworkers have been telling us that they are facing unacceptable levels of violence and abuse for far too long. 

"It is inexcusable that the government did not use the King’s Speech to ramp up efforts to tackle this scourge. 

"Labour would create a new specific offence of assault against retail workers. We will reverse the Tories’ decision to downgrade the response to shoplifting under £200, to make it easier to take action against repeat offenders and end the farce of offending impunity and return to proper neighbourhood policing."
