Preet Kaur Gill comments on new childhood obesity statistics

Preet Kaur Gill MP, Labour's Shadow Primary Care and Public Health Minister,commenting on new childhood obesity statistics which find one in four children are obese by the time they leave primary school, said:

"We need decisive action to tackle the childhood obesity crisis. It is a disgrace that almost a quarter of children are obese by the time they leave primary school. Excess weight has lasting consequences on children's health and will cost the NHS billions.

"For 13 years this Conservative government has failed to grip the issue.

"It is Labour's goal for children born today to be part of the healthiest generation that ever lived. We will ensure all children get a healthy start to life, with free primary school breakfast clubs serving healthy food, an active and balanced curriculum, and bans on advertising junk food to children."
