Liz Kendall reacts to the ONS labour market overview

Liz Kendall MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on the labour market overview published by the ONS this morning, said:

“Today’s figures lay bare 13 years of Conservative economic mismanagement.

“Employment is still not back to pre-pandemic levels, unemployment is rising and a record number of people are out of work as a result of long-term sickness. This isn’t good for them and it’s bad for the health of our economy too.

“Labour’s ambitious plan will reform Jobcentres, support the over-50s back to work and provide specialist help for those with ill health.

“With our mission to secure the highest sustained growth in the G7, Labour will get our economy moving and create good jobs across every part of the country."
