England has missed out on 212,000 new homes since the last election because of the Conservatives’ failure to meet their manifesto housebuilding target. At the 2019 general election, the Tories promised to build 300,000 homes a year, but they have never met that goal. New analysis finds that in 2021-22, the most recent period for which data is available, the government fell 67,000 homes short of their target.
