Round-up of stakeholder changes and appointments

The following appointments and changes have been made in the past month

Government changes

• Simon Fell MP was appointed as the UK’s first Rural Connectivity Champion
• Dr Kay Swinburne and Mr Darren Mott OBE have been ennobled and appointed as Lords Whips
• Baroness Bloomfield of Hinton Waldrist has resigned as a Lords Whip
• Zac Goldsmith resigned as Minister for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment
• Robin Millar resigned as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretaries of State for Scotland Wales

Conservative Party 

• Boris Johnson, Nigel Adams and David Warburton retired as MPs. Nadine Dorries announced her retirement but has not yet done so.
• Chris Pincher was suspended from the House of Commons for eight weeks

Labour Party

• Bambos Charalambous stood down as the Shadow Immigration Minister when he had the Labour whip suspended following an unspecified complaint.

Commons Select Committees 

• Public Accounts - Gareth Davies replaced James Cartlidge
• Business and Trade - Jonathan Gullis, Antony Higginbotham and Anthony Mangnall replaced Ruth Edwards, Mark Jenkinson and Alexander Stafford 
• Energy Security and Net Zero Committee new members - Hilary Benn, Vicky Ford, Barry Gardiner, Mark Garnier, Mark Hendrick, Mark Jenkinson, Dan Poulter, Lloyd Russell-Moyle, Mark Pawsey and Alexander Stafford
• Environment, Food and Rural Affairs - Cat Smith replaced Geraint Davies
• Administration - Navendu Mishra replaced Jessica Morden
• Public Accounts - Ben Lake replaced Louie French
• Treasury - Sir James Duddridge replaced Anthony Browne
• Women and Equalities - Lia Nici replaced Jamie Wallis

House of Lords 

• Boris Johnson's resignation peerages 2023 announced:
  • Shaun Bailey AM (currently a Member of the London Assembly)
  • Benjamin Gascoigne (former Political Secretary and Deputy Chief of Staff to Boris Johnson)
  • Benjamin Houchen (currently Mayor of Tees Valley Combined Authority)
  • Ross Kempsell (currently Political Director of the Conservative Party and Director of the Conservative Research Department)
  • Charlotte Owen (former Special Adviser to Boris Johnson)
  • Kulveer Singh Ranger (former Director of Transport for Boris Johnson while Mayor of London and Special Adviser on Digital Strategy) 
  • Daniel Rosenfield (former Chief of Staff to Boris Johnson) 
• Lord Morris of Aberavon died on June 5
• Baroness McDonagh died on June 24
• Lord Kerslake died on July 1
• Lord Brown of Eaton-under-Heywood has retired
• The Earl of Russell won a whole house by-election among the excepted hereditary peers
• Lord Young of Old Windsor took his seat

Lords Select Committees

• European Affairs - Lord Ricketts replaced the Earl of Kinnoull; Lord Ricketts appointed chair 
• Industry and Regulators - Baroness O’Grady of Upper Holloway replaced Lord Leong
• National Security Strategy - Lord Sarfraz replaced Lord Ashton of Hyde

Scottish Government 

• Fiona Hyslop appointed as the new Minister for Transport following the resignation of Kevin Stewart

Wales

• Rhun ap Iorwerth MS confirmed as Leader of Plaid Cymru
