Ahead of Armed Forces Day (Saturday), Labour Leader and Shadow Defence Secretary
have thanked serving personnel
for keeping Britain safe on a visit to RAF Brize Norton.
Starmer and Healey met with the Commander of the Air Mobility
Force and personnel on board RAF planes at the airbase in
Oxfordshire, including troops who were part of the recent airlift
of British citizens from Sudan.
Starmer and Healey also met with troops involved with the ongoing
UK operation to provide assistance to Ukraine.
MP, Leader of the Labour
Party, speaking ahead of Armed Forces Day, said:
“Those who serve in our armed forces represent the best of
Britain - courage, duty and professionalism. As we mark
Armed Forces Day, we thank our Armed Forces personnel, veterans
and their families for all they sacrifice to keep Britain safe.
“My uncle served aboard HMS Antelope in the Falklands War, and
pride in his service echoes through our family. It’s a privilege
to mark Armed Forces Day by meeting with serving personnel.
“From ongoing operations to support Ukraine, to deployments at
home during the pandemic, our Armed Forces are essential to our
national defence, our national resilience and our national NATO
obligations.
“They make Britain proud and are rightly respected across the
world. We wholeheartedly thank them for their service.
“Labour will always stand by our troops, veterans and their
families.”
