Home Affairs Committee to undertake pre-legislative scrutiny of Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill

The Home Affairs Committee will shortly be undertaking pre-legislative scrutiny of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Draft Bill, also known as Martyn’s Law in tribute to Martyn Hett who was one of the 22 victims killed in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack. 

• Inquiry: Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Draft Bill

The Government has said that the new law will enhance national security and reduce the risk to the public from terrorism at public events. It would require certain venues and events to assess the risk to the public from terrorism, and put in place measures to mitigate this risk. 

In carrying out pre-legislative scrutiny, the Committee will undertake a detailed examination of the draft legislation to understand its likely impact. It will then produce conclusions and recommendations in a report to inform the Government’s final Bill put before Parliament. 

The Committee invites written submissions on the key provisions and policy objectives of the Bill. The deadline for submissions is Friday 23 June. 

As part of the inquiry, the Committee will hold evidence sessions in June. Further details, including confirmed witnesses, will be announced in due course.
