Andrew Gwynne comments on a minister admitting the Conservatives will break their manifesto commitment to recruit 6,000 new GPs

Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, commenting on Neil O’Brien MP admitting the Conservatives are going to break their manifesto commitment to recruit 6,000 new GPs, said:

“The Conservatives have let the cat out of the bag - they haven’t got a recovery plan, they have a plan for managed decline of the NHS.

“This is yet another broken promise from the party that constantly over-promises and under-delivers. Patients will be waiting longer to see a GP as a result. So much for Rishi Sunak’s ‘relaunch.’

“Only Labour has a plan to give the NHS the staff it needs. We will train an extra 7,500 doctors and 10,000 nurses a year, paid for by abolishing the non-dom tax status, so the NHS can be there for us when we need it.”
