CPS Response: NASUWT Strike Ballot

Mark Lehain, Head of Education at the Center for Policy Studies said:

'This news will bring huge relief to pupils and their families. A strike would have achieved little but cause huge disruption for children and the country as a whole.

The result shows how divisive the issue is amongst teachers too, with fewer than 40% of NASUWT members voting for a strike, even after all the encouragement by the union leadership.

Hopefully the other union ballots due over the coming days will go the same way, so pupils can keep learning uninterrupted and teachers can stay focused on what they do best - transforming kids’ lives.'
