Scottish Liberal Democrats call for “massive expansion” of Scotland’s EV chargers

Commenting ahead of tonight’s BBC Disclosure documentary, which will discuss the impact of almost a quarter of Scotland’s public charging points for electric vehicles being faulty, Scottish Liberal Democrat net-zero spokesperson and Edinburgh councillor Sanne Dijkstra Downie said:   

“As someone who drives an EV and regularly struggles to find charging stations, I understand the frustration at government inaction on this. Across Scotland, charging stations are few and far between. When you do find one, there’s a good chance it’s broken or already occupied.  

“Issues with charging stations are even sharper in rural and remote communities, where the distances to them are so much greater.  

“There is absolutely no point in the government telling people to drive EVs if they can’t even provide the power to get them going. 

“Scottish Liberal Democrats have consistently raised these issues, which is why we are calling for a massive expansion of our charging network, with thousands of additional public charging stations in every rural and urban corner of Scotland. This is how we will make a decisive transition away from fossil-fuel powered cars.”
