Labour calls for Foreign Secretary to summon the Chinese Ambassador over incident at Manchester consulate

David Lammy MP, Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary, has demanded the Foreign Secretary summons the Chinese Ambassador over an incident at the Chinese consulate in Manchester over the weekend. He said:

“Reports that a pro-democracy protestor was allegedly assaulted in the grounds of the Chinese consulate in Manchester are deeply concerning and, if accurate, totally unacceptable.

“The Foreign Secretary should urgently summon the Chinese Ambassador to demand an explanation for the incident.

“The UK stands for freedom, the rule of law and democracy. The quashing of peaceful protest will never be tolerated on our streets.”
