Wes Streeting responds to NHS waiting times figures showing the Conservative Government has broken its promise to eliminate two year waits by July

Wes Streeting MP, Labour’s Shadow Health and Social Care Secretary, responding to NHS waiting times figures released this morning finding that 6.94 million patients are on an NHS waiting list, including 2,885 who have been waiting more than two years, showing that the Conservative Government has broken its promise to eliminate two year waits by July, said:

“After 12 years of Conservative Government, more patients are waiting for treatment than ever before. The basic promise that an ambulance will arrive in time when you need one has been broken. There are still thousands of patients who have been waiting more than two years for care, another example of the Conservatives overpromising and underdelivering.

“Now we have a new Prime Minister in Liz Truss who has proposed charging patients to see a doctor and cutting the NHS budget.

“Only Labour can get patients treated on time again, just as the last Labour Government did. The longer we give the Conservatives in office, the longer patients will wait.”
