Jess Phillips comments on College of Policing’s report into police perpetrated domestic abuse

Jess Phillips MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding, responding to the College of Policing’s super-complaint investigation report into police perpetrated domestic abuse, said:

“This report paints a bleak picture for survivors of police-perpetrated domestic abuse. No abuser is above the law, but far too many survivors feel they can’t come forward with reports for fear of their abuser’s protection being prioritised over their safety.

“That is an appalling situation and the Home Office must work with forces to implement the measures needed to remove these barriers and support survivors.

“The report is also clear that charges for all domestic abuse, both within the police and outside it, are far too low. Justice is slipping further and further away for survivors, while their perpetrators get off scot free. And yet, the Government’s domestic abuse plan fails to take the action needed, yet again dodging the opportunity to bring forward a register and monitoring plan for even the most prolific repeal offenders. This isn’t good enough and survivors deserve better.”
