Labour responds to warnings from the OECD that UK economic growth is grinding to a halt next year

Rachel Reeves MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, responding to warnings from the OECD that UK economic growth is grinding to a halt next year, said: 

“This lays bare the extreme challenges facing the UK economy.

“That economic growth in the UK will grind to a halt next year, with only Russia performing worse than us in the G20, is a shameful indictment of the chaos and incoherence of this Conservative government. 

“It reveals a Tory economic strategy centred around low growth and high taxes. 

“Labour would create a more secure economy by spending wisely, taxing fairly, and getting the economy firing on all cylinders. 

“Our Climate Investment Pledge will create new jobs for the future, and immediately – for builders, pipefitters and engineers as we insulate 19 million homes across our country. Our plan to buy, make and sell more in Britain will boost businesses and get our recovery on track.”
