Aircraft carrier contract great for Rosyth but need further investment there and at other yards - Prospect

Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect Sue Ferns, responding to news that the government has awarded a £30m contract to maintain aircraft carriers to Rosyth, said:

“This contract is a welcome vote of confidence in Rosyth, supporting 300 skilled jobs and ensuring the shipyard continues to be an attractive prospect for contracts going forward.  

“It’s vital that both the dry dock contract for Rosyth and carrier maintenance programme at Portsmouth, are supported by further investment to secure the future of both yards.

“If the government awards contracts strategically, taking into account the huge economic and levelling up benefits that spending UK Defence money in the UK can bring, then we can have a thriving industry that competes with the rest of the world while delivering world class ships.”
