Defra has consulted on plans to introduce new environmental targets under the Environment Act 2021. These targets will help meet the government’s vision of leaving the environment in a better state than it was found. See the full Defra consultation.

This publication covers the Environment Agency’s response to the consultation.

Along with the 25 Year Environment Plan (Environmental Improvement Plan), existing targets and other measures in the Environment Act, the proposed targets provide a good platform from which to make progress towards the government’s long-term environmental goals.
