MP, Leader of the Labour
Party, will launch Labour’s local election campaign in Bury on
Thursday with a call to Vote Labour in May to “send the Tories a
message they cannot ignore” on the cost of living crisis.
, who will be joined by
Labour’s deputy leader , will unveil new research
which shows the Tories are leaving families £2,620 worse off –
even after the spring statement.
Promising that Labour will be “On Your Side”, Starmer will say
that Labour would cut people's energy bills by up to £600 -
funded by a windfall levy on the excess profits of the oil and
gas companies.
Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, , and National Campaign
Co-ordinator, ShabanaMahmood, will be attending campaign launches
in Worthing and Derby respectively as theParty unveils its new
integrated doorstep and digital attack campaign focusing on the
£2,620 cost per family of the Conservatives.
will say:
“In exactly five weeks, you get the chance to send the Tories a
message they cannot ignore. A message that Britain deserves
better than the pathetic response we got to the Conservative cost
of living crisis in the mini-Budget.
“You know the reality - prices are going through the roof,
and wages are going through the floor.
“What did we get in that mini-Budget?
“A Conservative government that takes far more than it gives to
working people. The biggest drop in living standards since the
50s. Taxes the highest in 70 years.
“Even allowing for everything the Chancellor announced, families
are £2,620 worse off. Britain deserves better than this.”
Promising that Labour will be 'On Your Side', will say:
“Britain has a lot to be proud of, but Britain does not have a
Government on the side of businesses, working families and
pensioners.
“That’s what Labour promises to be: On your side.
“Labour’s contract with you will be based on three principles:
security, prosperity and respect.
“Working families feel more insecure than ever. While prices are
rising in the supermarkets, at the petrol pumps and in our
electricity bills, the Government has chosen to put up National
Insurance at exactly the wrong time.
“That’s why Labour would tackle the Tory cost of living crisis by
cutting your bills by up to £600 funded by a windfall levy on the
excess profits of the oil and gas companies.
“We will reform employment law so scandals like P&O would
never happen on our watch.
“I know communities across the country don’t feel respected.
Crime is still too high and too often people don’t feel safe.
Anti-social behaviour is out of control.
“The Government is not in control and working people are paying
the price. Labour has a plan to cut crime by introducing police
hubs in every neighbourhood.”
