Foreign Secretary is in Lithuania today (Thursday) to meet Baltic
foreign ministers from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
She will underpin the importance of the continued, unified
support for all democratic allies to Ukraine in the face
of Russia’s unprovoked invasion.
In a speech alongside her Baltic counterparts today (Thursday),
the Foreign Secretary is expected to say:
“The United Kingdom stands with our allies in doing all we
can to support Ukraine against President Putin's war of
choice.
“Together with our Baltic allies, we are reinforcing NATO's
Eastern flank. We are stepping up to support Ukraine economically
and defensively, while also providing emergency humanitarian
aid.
“By continuing to respond with strength, united with our
allies, we will ensure President Putin's ambitions end in
failure.”
During her visit, Truss will meet Estonian Foreign Minister
Eva-Maria Liimets, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics and
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis to discuss
support for Ukraine and the importance of supporting NATO
Allies.
She will also meet UK military personnel from Army Air Corps and
18 Squadron, Royal Air Force, who are currently deployed in
Lithuania as part of a US-led exercise.
The Baltic States are staunch allies of the UK on defence and
security issues, and alongside the UK, have supplied defensive
aid to support Ukrainians in their resistance.
The Foreign Secretary’s visit follows the Prime Minister’s
meeting with Estonian President Alar Karis on Tuesday, where the
leaders condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its brutal
attacks on innocent civilians.
At the same time, the Foreign Secretary attended the UN Human
Rights Council in Geneva, where she highlighted Russia’s
egregious actions and the toll that these actions were taking on
innocent civilians.
On Tuesday the Prime Minister announced new funding for Ukraine,
bringing the total amount of UK support during the crisis to £220
million.
