Chris Evans responds to report on navy procurement

Chris Evans MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement, responding to the Defence Select Committee’s report on navy procurement, said:

“Ministers have been failing to put work into UK shipyards for years, and this report demonstrates yet again that Ministry of Defence’s procurement process is not up to scratch. 

“Delays, cost increases and constant mismanagement of shipbuilding not only threatens jobs and livelihoods, but it also leaves our Navy with possible gaps and obsolete equipment just when threats are increasing.

“The Government must drop the Prime Ministers’ vanity projects and see our shipyards as national assets. We need a clear plan from the Government to enhance these capabilities. Labour has committed to a ‘Buy British by Default’ procurement approach to secure jobs and communities.”
