Jeff Smith responds to House of Lords report on sport

Jeff Smith MP, Labour’s Shadow Sports Minister, commenting on the House of Lords report on sport urging shift in Government focus, said: 

“Sport is one of the things that makes Britain great, yet the government has squandered our proud Olympic legacy. Funding for grassroots sport has been slashed, and Ministers have failed over a decade, to put active, healthy experiences at the heart of everyday life. 

“Labour’s Healthy Living Index would ensure that every government decision would have to improve wellbeing and our Children’s Recovery Plan puts sport and physical activity into children’s school experience to support every child’s pandemic recovery. A Labour Government is urgently needed to meet the country’s ambition for sport and fitness.”
