Lords Sport and Recreation Committee to publish report

The House of Lords Committee on a National Plan for Sport and Recreation will publish its report on Friday 10 December.

Over the last year the Committee has conducted an in-depth analysis of sport and physical activity across the country to understand why England continues to have persistently high levels of inactivity, and to put forward proposals for change.  

The Committee have looked holistically at sport and recreation provision and its report makes recommendations in a number of key areas including:

• How sport and promotion of physical activity is organised in Government and why a new approach is needed.

• How to instil a lifelong love of sport and physical activity, failures in how PE and sport is delivered in schools and how this can be addressed.

• How we can enable active lifestyles through planning, urban design and use of technology.

• Duty of Care and safeguarding provision both for elite athletes and children and adults involved in grassroots sport.

• The skills, support and career prospects for the workforce delivering sport and recreation opportunities including coaches, volunteers and others.
