Jim McMahon responds to Urgent Question on the future of Transport for the North

Jim McMahon MP, Labour's Shadow Transport Secretary, responding to an Urgent Question on the future of Transport for the North tabled by Diana Johnson MP, said:

"Not content with having ripped up their own promises to voters in the North, the Conservatives now appear to be trying to dismantle the very body set up to ensure our regions had a voice, stripping it of staff and money to prevent the creation of new schemes.

"It is a naked attempt at a Whitehall power grab under the cover of last week’s betrayal - simply because the Government doesn't like hearing what we have to say.

"It's time for the Prime Minister and Transport Secretary to be straight with the communities they have sold out by going back on their word and give them the investment they were promised time and time again."
