LGA responds to Health and Social Care Committee report into supporting those with dementia and their carers 

Responding to the Health and Social Care Committee report highlighting a need for greater funding for dementia support from the health and social care levy, Cllr David Fothergill, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, said:

“We agree with the Committee about the need for long term funding to be provided to improve services for people with dementia and unpaid carers.

“Social care has been on the frontline throughout the pandemic and it is disappointing that no additional funding to address existing pressures on care and support have been provided in the Spending Review. Future demand will also create further pressures, with this report worryingly warning that the number of older people living with dementia in England will increase to around 1.35 million by 2040, and many of these will require care and support from councils.”
