24 peers update register of interests to include description of 'nature of business' of financial interests

The House of Lords Commissioner for Standards had today published a report following allegations that Members had breached the Code of Conduct by not providing a description of the nature of businesses of which they are Directors.

In his report Martin Jelley QPM, one of two independent Lords’ Commissioners for Standards, finds that the Members should have provided a brief description of the nature of the business they were involved in. The Commissioner concludes this was a minor breach of the Code as the Members had all given the name of the companies in which they were Directors or held a financial interest.

The omission has now been rectified with all 24 Members having updated their Register of Interests entry to include a description of the nature of the business. The Commissioner notes the cooperation of the Members involved and their “prompt engagement with the office of the Registrar of Interests” to rectify the omission.
