MP,
Labour's Shadow Justice Secretary, responding to the
government's U-turn announcement of an independent review into
sentencing reform on domestic homicide, said:
"The gap in sentencing between those who murder at home versus in
the street leads to real injustice. Domestic murderers get off
too lightly after committing some of the most horrific crimes,
often against women.
"We are pleased the Government has now U-turned after voting
against Labour's proposal for an independent review to increase
sentencing for domestic murder in the Police, Crime, Sentencing
and Courts Bill.
"The Government should now introduce the rest of Labour's
proposals in its green paper to tackle the epidemic of violence
against women and girls."
