Government Covid workplace safety guidance - Seema Malhotra responds

"The Conservatives have failed to learn from their mistakes, once again leaving businesses in the lurch thanks to unworkable and confusing advice.

"Labour is clear that mask wearing in shops should remain mandatory while we are cautiously easing other restrictions and battling the transmission of the virus. This, along with sensible measures including allowing employees to work flexibly and the continued provision of workplace testing would provide much needed clarity and help protect employers, workers and customers. Protection for workers through the wearing of face coverings should be backed up by the law.

"It is utterly inexcusable that the Government has failed to consult with businesses and unions about this new safety guidance. Had they done so, they would have been told that once again they have dropped the ball, creating another mess businesses will be left to clean up."
