Lords COVID-19 Committee to hear from Town and City leaders about the long-term impact of the pandemic

On Tuesday 13 July, the COVID-19 Select Committee will hear from town and city leaders in an evidence session exploring the most significant long-term consequences of the pandemic for towns and cities, and how these might change plans and priorities for their future.

The session will also explore how the pandemic’s impact on towns and cities will affect different communities, impact existing inequalities and risk creating new inequalities.

Giving evidence will be:

• Carl Smith, Leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council;
• Margaret Davidson, Leader of the Highland Council; and
• Lucille Thompson, Leader of Winchester City Council.

• The changes made to the long-term plans and priorities for individual towns and cities to tackle the impacts of the pandemic;
• The long-term vision for high streets;
• Any exciting changes or innovations that may help to regenerate towns and cities post-pandemic;
• The potential for the pandemic to exacerbate existing inequalities or create new inequalities; and
• The support needed from the UK Government to deliver the priorities and plans for post-pandemic towns and cities.
