, Labour’s Shadow Culture Minister,
responding to leaked information from the Department for Culture,
Media and Sport, showing positive results from the Events
Research Programme, said:
“As requested by the Government, Directors of Public Health,
events companies and members of the public put in every effort to
test safe ways to go ahead with live music, nightclubs, sports
events and other large scale events. And yet now the Government
won’t share the data to confirm if it works and allow them to
plan.
“Businesses need to be able to plan and the public should know
what is possible to make sure the summer is both safe and fun.
They all deserve a lot better than this messing about from the
Conservatives. Why does find it so hard to be transparent with us?"

Notes to editors:
Labour has tabled a series of questions to the Government:
- What assessment has the Secretary of State made of Lateral
Flow Test Supplies; and will he confirm that we have enough to
enable planned summer events to go ahead safely?
- Will the Secretary of State now immediately publish the
results of the Events Research Programme?
- Will the Secretary of State now immediately publish any and
all economic assessments of the impact of not allowing large
events this summer?
- Will the Secretary of State list all ministers, including the
Prime Minister, who have received a copy of the Events Research
Programme results?
- What recent discussions has the Secretary of State had with
his counterparts in the Treasury about the financial situation of
companies in the live events industry supply chain?
Under the Parliamentary Named Day Question system, ministers are
expected to answer on Monday.
