Jonathan Reynolds responds to IPPR’s report on working family poverty

Jonathan Reynolds MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, responding to IPPR’s report on working family poverty, said:

“Under the Conservatives the link between work and prosperity has been broken. It is simply wrong that one in six working households can’t make ends meet while the overwhelming majority of children living in poverty have working parents.

“That level of need amongst working people has been driven by the low-wage, insecure economy the Conservatives have overseen in the last decade.

“The Government’s response to the crisis of in work poverty is a cut Universal Credit, taking £1000 from five million families already struggling. Labour would extend the uplift to Universal Credit and replace it with a system that lets people keep more of what they earn."
