CFI and LFI Chairs write to Metropolitan Police Commissioner condemning “vile” Antisemitic incidents in London

The Parliamentary Chairs of Conservative Friends of Israel and Labour Friends of Israel have jointly written to Dame Cressida Dick, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police following a series of Antisemitic incidents in London this weekend.

In their letter, Rt. Hon. Stephen Crabb MP (CFI, Parliamentary Chairman in the House of Commons) and Steve McCabe MP (LFI, Parliamentary Chair) express “serious concerns” about the “deeply troubling incidents”.

Outlining reports of Antisemitic imagery and “chants celebrating the death of Jews” at a protest rally in London yesterday, the Chairs assert that the incidents “seek to intimidate and incite violence, and directly harm social cohesion in the heart of the Capital”. They raise concerns that the incidents “pose [a] possible physical threat to the Jewish community”.

The letter also addresses a “vile” convoy of cars which has today been driving through Jewish communities in London using “explicit, offensive language against Jews and shockingly even call[ing] for the rape of Jewish children”. The Chairs state that it is “inexplicable that this convoy was able to travel through London and incite violence and sexual assault without being stopped by the police”.

The letter calls for the Metropolitan Police to investigate the incidents as a “matter of urgency” and prosecute accordingly.
