NHS England's response to Covid vaccines preventing 33,000 hospital admissions

NHS England's response to figures from Public Health England (PHE), which reveal that vaccines stopped at least 33,000 people aged 65 and over from needing hospital treatment and saved 11,700 lives among those aged 60 and over.

NHS England’s lead for the NHS vaccination programme, Dr Emily Lawson said: “The fastest and most successful vaccination programme in NHS history continues at pace, with around 9 in 10 people aged 40 and over now vaccinated and nearly 46 million vaccinations delivered since the world’s first jab.

“It is great to see from this study the impact that the NHS’s incredible efforts are now having in demonstrably reducing the need for hospital care as well as saving thousands of lives from coronavirus.”
