The Transport Committee holds an introductory session for its
inquiry into zero emission vehicles and
road pricing.
A selection of organisations will give evidence on the range of
issues required to make an effective transition to electric
vehicles ahead of 2030, the date by which Government has
committed to ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars. From
accelerating the roll-out of charging infrastructure to replacing
the lost income from vehicle tax and fuel duty – two panels
consider the challenges ahead.
Likely topics for discussion include:
- How to increase the consumer uptake of zero emission vehicles
(ZEVs)
- The Government’s progress on rolling out charging
infrastructure
- The effect the transition to ZEVs will have on modal shift to
public transport and active travel
- Whether there is a case to introduce some form of national
road pricing scheme
- The technology possibilities and challenges of introducing
such a scheme
- The sorts of policy objectives that will get public support.
