The House of Lords Committee on a National Plan for Sport and
Recreation will this week hold evidence sessions on whether
people from ethnic minority backgrounds are being let down in
their access to sport and recreation opportunities.
The Committee will hold a further session looking at
access and barriers to sport and recreation for women and
girls.
The evidence sessions will start at 3:30pm on Wednesday 21 April
and can be followed live and after the sessions at www.parliamentlive.tv.

In the first session questions will focus
on:

The diversity of experiences among different ethnic
minority groups and within minority communities in relation to
participation in sport and recreation.

How racism and abuse of athletes both at sporting
events and on social media should be tackled.

What more needs to be done to ensure more people
from ethnic minority backgrounds are in powerful and
decision-making roles in national sport governing bodies and
other organisations.
The second session will look
at:

How successful the Government and other bodies have
been in encouraging participation in sport and recreation among
women and girls.

How sexism and other abuse of women in sport on
social media and in person should be tackled.

How women facing additional barriers to
participation in sport, including ethnic minority women and
women with disabilities can be supported to be more
active.
