The inquiry
into the risks to the future
of community sport continues, hearing from the leaders of the
national governing bodies of a wide range of sports. The session
will examine how effective government funding and guidance for
local sports clubs and teams has been after the pandemic put the
future of many at risk. The balance of resource given to elite
and grassroots sport will be considered, with a focus on
addressing limitations that impacted the viability of community
clubs before the pandemic.
MPs will also seek
perspectives on the Community Ownership Fund announced in the
Budget this year that will help community groups to buy or take
over community sport clubs at risk.
The role of governing bodies
in encouraging participation in people from all backgrounds will
also be examined.
In this inquiry, the DCMS
Committee is looking into sports governance, funding and the case
for elite professional sports supporting lower leagues and
grassroots and to identify specific actions the Government can
take to guarantee the sustainability of the community sports
sector.
