“Labour called for a Plan B on Liberty Steel yet workers, customers and suppliers will have had no reassurances from the Business Secretary.

“It’s in our national interest for all options to be on the table because domestic steelmaking is a cornerstone of our national security and economic prosperity.

“The truth is that 10 years of Conservative government has been characterised by betrayal for steel communities and the industry with no action on key issues such as high energy prices, no procurement guarantees to Buy British and no real plan to safeguard and create jobs through greening steel production.”
