Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced the Integrated Review of
Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy (the
IR).
The review is the most comprehensive articulation of a
defence, foreign and national security approach published
by a British Government in decades. Building on the
£24-billion multi-year settlement announced in November,
defence will continue its shift to modernise our forces
across sea, land, air, space, and cyberspace.
Strategic Command is at the centre of the Integrated
Review, we deal with the strategic and military realities
every day – from Special Forces, to those defending our
digital networks, and our bases around the world.
The shift to a new way of operating – persistently engaged
globally, countering sub-threshold or ‘grey zone’ threats,
embracing the Information Age – is set out in the Integrated Operating
Concept 2025. This is a new approach to the utility of
our armed forces in an era of persistent competition and
represents the most significant change in UK military
thought in several generations.
Whether it is Cyber, Space, digitisation, our world-leading
Science and Technology activity, or all points in-between,
Strategic Command is front and centre in leading Defence’s
contribution to delivering the government’s ambition and
purpose, and in making the UK and its allies more secure.
