Next Monday, March 22, the Government will be publishing the
Defence Command Paper. This is really just an expansion of the
defence component of tomorrows Integrated Review
publication/announcement. It is likely to be launched by the
Secretary of State in an oral statement to MPs.
The following day, Tuesday, the MoD will announce their Defence
Industrial strategy, which will follow on from the IR and the
Defence Command Paper, and will concentrate on defence procurement,
and speeding up supply chains for defence equipment, whilst also
shortening the "lifespan" of defence equipment to make the services
more efficient. It is thought that this too, will be in the form of
a statement in the Commons if the Speaker will allow it, or,
failing that, it will be in the form of a written ministerial
statement.
The UK's Cyber Capability will be a major feature of both the
Command paper and the Industrial strategy announcements.
