Today, Monday 15th March, the Scottish Government has released
its Housing strategy to 2040 which aims to deliver on the
Scottish Government’s ambition for everyone to have a safe, good
quality and affordable home.
Housing to 2040 outlines a commitment to:
- Continue to invest in the supply of affordable homes so they
are available for the people who need them.
- Roll out nationally a programme to facilitate access to the
private rented sector for homeless households.
- Develop homelessness prevention legislation to ensure public
bodies across Scotland have responsibilities for preventing
homelessness.
Responding to the announcement Crisis Chief Executive, Jon
Sparkes, said: “We welcome the publication of the Housing to 2040
strategy and its focus on boosting affordable housing and ending
homelessness.
“Over the past year Scotland has made remarkable progress in
tackling rough sleeping. However, too many people still
experience the trauma of homelessness. It is great to see the
Scottish Government’s housing strategy commit to developing
legislation which will ensure that people get the help they need
to stop them from losing their home.
“Changing the law to prevent homelessness must be a priority for
the next Scottish Government. We look forward to working with the
Scottish Government to make this happen and ensure Scotland
maintains momentum as a world leader in ending homelessness.”
