Lucy Powell responds to fall in number of cars built in the UK

“Our automotive manufacturers have been badly bruised this year with production stalling, order books emptying and job losses mounting up.

“This vital industry should be at the heart of our country’s recovery. Labour has called for months for the Government to accelerate investment in battery technology and charging infrastructure to help boost our manufacturers’ competitiveness and tackle the climate emergency.

“An ambitious green recovery would supercharge the industry, protect and create jobs across the country and secure our economy. Ministers must act now, not stand by and watch as the industry struggles and people lose their livelihoods.”
